Caryn Franklin and Jane Galpin

Caryn Franklin – The Journey so far

Caryn Franklin met Jane Galpin in the mid 80s during a time when she was wearing mannish suits and bowler hats and fashion editor of international style bible i-D magazine; whilst Jane was an avid researcher on a new fashion programme for the BBC.

It was clearly immediately that both were passionate about empowering women to feel good about their image, and these two fashion experts started a working partnership that would cover decades.

Shortly afterwards Caryn began presenting the BBC's Clothes Show programme over 12 successful years; as Jane rose up the ranks to producer on that very same show.

Their unprecedented knowledge and advice on fashion was in high demand and they wanted to share this wisdom. Howtolookgood.com was born in 2002 and has grown into an inspirational hub offering fashion tips and advice on how to dress for your body shape.

Caryn Franklin is a recognised force in her industry and her adept fashion tips for body types have helped many ordinary women around the world.

Both Caryn and Jane are still working hard on numerous projects, with Caryn having hosted in a variety of fashion programmes since the beginning of her career including BBC’s Style Challenge, Discovery’s Style Academy, Border TV’s Style Bible, as well as producing and presenting ITV’s Fashion Tributes on a raft of prestigious designers, from Vivienne Westwood to Matthew Williamson and most recently being co-founder of 'All Walks Beyond the Catwalk'.

Caryn has interviewed many designers including Yves Saint Laurent and Georgio Armani during her time as journalist and has contributed her experience and advice to a host of newspapers, magazines, as well as creating four books and working in schools and colleges across the UK.

Caryn currently designs a clothing range for Simply Be and is also patron of Beat (formally the eating disorders association) and co-chair of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer – a post she has held for 13 years. Caryn's most recent project is All Walks Beyond the Catwalk. www.allwalks.org

Jane meanwhile was in demand after her 12 years producing the nation’s top fashion programme, moved to make BBC’s Style Challenge a cult success and has continued her behind-the-scenes dynamism. Now producing the hugely successful How to Look Good Naked and 10 Years Younger for Channel 4, she somehow finds the time (although Caryn has no idea how she does it!) to run their company Brilliant Productions.

The fact is Caryn and Jane love what they do, from consulting to creating live events and performing on stage for clients like Lloyds, Marks and Spencer, Evans, Next, National Wedding Show, Platinum Guild, Royal Mint and many others, to running this site.

Caryn’s e-books on how to dress for your body shape were created off the back of such events, as they wanted to show you the styling tools that have helped so many women over the years, adding fun and genuine pleasure to their lives.

Caryn say’s: “Being able to demystify fashion for anyone who asks is really important to us and the letters of thanks we receive bring a huge smile to our faces!”
