The other day I found myself in a bit of a tizzy. I had an invite to a party. It was one where I knew there would be paparazzi and despite being up to my eyes (not just glamourous work projects darlings – normal stuff like children, PTA meetings and ‘you said you’d help me with my homework,’ pressures) I felt the need to go.
But to these events you can’t wear any old thing now can you?
Thing is I want to buy British and if I can and I want to buy something that has been ethically sourced. Yes this is possible but I didn’t have a stylist calling in dresses for me and with two working days to find my frock, and plenty of work deadlines to meet I was under pressure.
So I called up some very special designers and they measured me up and created the most magnificent dress, which fitted like a glove. But there is more… this dress was once worn by two different men!
Yes I know what you are thinking but as you can see when you check out this little pic of me in the work room at the back of the shop trying on the finished version the morning of the party, I looked perfectly adorable.
So let me explain. These designers do it differently, and when I visited them in London’s East End I was invited to the back of their shop where I chose the men’s suits from a large rail of second hand suits and I chose the lining from a selection of end of line rolls.
As you can see when you log onto this piece of film the results are fantastic. Very Sex in the City in fact! And nobody has the same dress as me anywhere in the world!
My point for telling you is that clever people are coming up with solutions to our ethical clothing dilemmas and in the case of Junky Styling – they’ve been doing it for 10 years.
The great news is they make these dresses off the peg too and for the amount it would cost to buy any special occasion outfit you can have something that is utterly original and will be the talking point at any party.
For me that is everything I want in a party dress.
