New Ideas

My first day back at my desk proper after a week of shows where it’s easy to forget that ordinary everyday clothes exist! You know that’s my remit but I like, no need to keep up with the high fashion offer.

Why?

Well, in fashion world,  the clothes we are looking at are a real marriage of vision, technology and aspiration. Quite simply they are beautiful things that inspire everyone else in the industry to work with new ideas and techniques. Roksanda Ilincic pictured here had a wonderful take on eveningwear. (Although this was the unfortunate model who took a tumble in Alejandro Ingelmo shoes as mentioned in my previous post.

It follows that the clothes and accessory ideas I and other writers, see will filter through into the mainstream. You will have noticed features or ideas that you want for your clothes. And at howtolookgood.com that’s what we’re about showing you how to incorporate those features (as in the right ones for your body shape) into your wardrobe.

In that way the whole industry is one big circle.

I’m a fan of Osman Yousefzada too, so let me show you something from his show. His double layered swishy, yet oh so sleek look, is making an impact. Are you clocking what a great front row seat I had in all of the shows I’ve covered? Not easy I can tell you.

But what of specialist techniques? Well have a look at these cuties.

Made from recycled plastic, designed by (in this instance Viv but there are lots of designer collaborations in the Melissa brand) these shoes are a sexy solution to vegan footwear requests, sustainable fashion requirements and price conscious demands. They are available from Browns Focus – next spring, for a mere snip of £70.00

And let’s not forget one of my fave accessory designers Nahoui Ollin. See this colourful folded textile that maeks up the mainstay of the bag? Well that’s made from rejected seed packets fresh from the factory bin for God sake!

This is a technique that is being taught to untrained workers to give them a job in the fashion industry. So we can all feel nice about that!

At the time of writing I haven’t got retailers for this but give me a shout if you want me to find out!
