Yes? Well most of us are. A woman’s bottom is meant to be round and soft and her hips wider. I’m a fan of a big juicy bottom because that’s just how nature made us.

However, learning how to pick a style of swimsuit that that will flatter is what you want and the reason why you are still reading this column I expect!

There are so many clothing tricks I can help you to understand if you are pear-shaped and in each of my dress your body type, e-book ranges from tall, standard height, fuller and petite, I cover this common body shape.

But right now I want to give you my quick and easy take on swimwear, since I’m pretty sure you might be thinking about your holiday style about now.

Big on the bottom or pear-shaped.

Distract: This means drawing the focus to the top of your body with colour, print or detail. Choose a two-piece where the briefs are dark and solid and the top patterned and bright. Horizontal lines across your top-half will widen you further.

Re-balance: Try a two-piece where the briefs are plain without detail and the top is adorned with frills to create volume and attract the eye. You can see this illustrated in the picture I have chosen from www.simplybe.co.uk.

Conceal: mini-skirted bikinis are fun and feminine – pick a smooth, skimming skirt, that is short and sweet with a slash at the hip on one or both sides.

Reconsider: Don’t rule out a one piece. Something with wide straps, or a strong horizontal neckline, will balance out your silhouette. Remember, playing up your top half will de-emphasize your bottom half.

Avoid: Horizontal lines across your hips, boy shorts, that in themselves look like a thick wide band running across your bottom half. Briefs that are too skimpy and don’t’ have any ability to cover your butt cheeks and detail at the hips that makes us look in the direction of your you-know-what.

It’s that simple and of course to illustrate some of what I mean what I mean I have picked this tankini from Simply Be which comes in UK sizes 14-16.
