Last time we hooked up, I was talking about legs and skirt length. Well, as a long time wearer of trousers and trouser suits I’ve only recently (last couple of years) begun to feel at home in skirt and heels. I think that has everything to do with getting older and feeling more comfortable in my own skin.
It’s also taken a long time to shake off the militant 80’s androgyny vibe for me, which worked very nicely with a boyish figure. These days I am softer and rounder and I notice, suited to skirts.
This is of course another ‘Presenter on stage look’ from my uniforms collection. Jane and I are doing the business at the National Wedding Show as you can see.
So let’s discuss.
Well it’s a dress actually but the hemline’s the point here. I’m a definite hemline-hovering-around-the-knee-type. Not because I think I should be covering up and wearing longer lengths but I just like this length. My thing is brightly coloured hosiery and an interesting shoe this one by my favourite designer Georgina Goodman. These shoes are a few seasons’ old now but as you know I like a classic.
My dress is from one of my favourite boutiques just at the end of St Christopher’s Place called Joy. My criteria when choosing places to buy from is always that I won’t see the same item on a member of my audience, since there are only a few stores nationwide, I feel fairly safe. This is a soft jersey style that cost £60.00. I can also wear this dress over skinny jeans so it is wonderfully versatile.
In the picture, I am following one of my streamlining tools by keeping to one colour grouping and as a standard shape I can afford to draw the focus to the bottom of my body with exciting shoes – this wouldn’t work so well for a petite shape. My own note to myself for this look is to add some big beads to the top of my body (blue probably) then I can balance my outfit more evenly.
Ah yes, we style guru types can take criticism!
