Caryn Franklin is mostly wearing ...So what’s a girl to wear for her appearance as Ambassador of Britain’s first Centre for Sustainable Fashion?

This is me at 7am before I leap on the tube for a breakfast presentation. It’s another of my uniform categories ‘Fashion Journalist at work.’ If you who have my e-book, which is hot on body type fashion advice along with the uniforms we all need (as well as so much more of course) then you know what I mean.

This outfit differs completely from ‘Presenter on Stage’ as you’ll see from previous blogs because it is less showy. Well I’ve got to say black does it all for me, I’m into different textures for interest and OK the odd bit of monochrome.

Actually I was very excited to give a breakfast press conference at the London College of Fashion last Tuesday about the C.S.F. Which was something I had suggested in a previous report as the colleges External Assessor (yes I’m not always in studios titivating models you know)!

There has been quite a bit of follow up online press about the centre but so that you can hear it straight from the horses mouth, it is a much needed ‘Centre of Excellence’ that enables ethical clothing solutions to be worked into the education process and thoroughly supported by industry. This means young designers are taught from the very beginning about all the options available for ethical clothing design and industry benefits when it employs them afterwards.

But I know you are just as interested in what I’m wearing so let’s discuss. Silk pussy-bow blouses are as versatile as is gets for me. I love mine with jeans and a tank top or under a waistcoat.

Because I am a standard pear I use this top to give volume to the top of my body. It effectively widens me here. But it also softens – it’s a much more pleasing solution than a plain black blouse or shirt and makes me seem more approachable and less official I think!

My skirt is an exaggerated A-line shape, which widens the bottom half of my body too so I have an hourglass shape. I love this Sportmax design because it’s rather stiff and has a lovely power-dressing feel to it.

But waistline is everything in creating balance and as you can see. I’ve exaggerated mine with a shiny Obi style belt, which acts as a focal point. (if I wasn’t looking so pleased with myself and adopting my favourite pose you’d be able to see more clearly so I’ve made a note to myself to take future pics with my arms by my sides – my aim is to please after al).

Finally black nails. I love black or purple nail polish on short nails and I apply it with a technique taught to me by one of my favourite make-up artists. I am reminded that she is in fact available for one to one lessons and I’m making a mental note to tell you all about her another time.
