I love a chance to dress up as I’m sure you noticed and what better occasion than a wedding?
At a do I attended the other day, whilst waiting for the bride – a stylist friend of mine – the announcement in the church from the Vicar went something like this…
“I believe there are a lot of people who work in the fashion industry amongst our congregation today and I know they at least will understand when I say that the bride will be here as soon as the designer has finished stitching her dress.”
Yes, those of us used to the backstage shenanigans at any show where the garment isn’t ready/well enough styled/on the right way, did not bat an eyelid.
The bride eventually rolled up unflustered, to the relief of her soon-to-be-husband; designer busily titivating the veil behind her for maximum impact.
Of course there were adoring gasps as she wafted down the isle in ruby red. And I was reminded that these days anything really does go.
Although, this is the time for a few ‘Ask Caryn’s to find their way to my desk on matters of wedding attire. It’s a time when some of you feel that to ignore traditional rules is fashion folly indeedy.
Relax. (0K apart from not wearing something too off-white-and-bridal) there are no rules just tools for dressing up and having fun. Much more important is that you are able to pick out clothes that will fatter your shape – everything else will fall into place
I’ve taken to wearing silk flowers in my hair as a way of avoiding a stiff brimmed hat or a perky fascinator. I wrap silk scarves round my hair first and then pin the flowers artistically on to the scarf.
Actually I think it looks dramatic and kind of ‘Jackie O,’ in her Bill Blass, period. I’m wearing a vintage coat to with raglan sleeves that really does offer a retro classic feel to the whole thing.
I got married in that coat actually! Obviously that’s dress up story for another time!
