OK I got a chance to test drive my four inch heels (see last post) and I gotta say that having put in a mere few hours on a nice smooth stage (courtesy of Harvey Nichols and Sapphires Model agency to promote the Princes Trust, last night in Birmingham) I was still sorely tested!
As you will recall my new shoes were amongst the lowest in the shop, but still I now realise, too high for me. My god I was working hard to look effortlessly comfortable and so grateful that I had nothing but marble smooth floors to promenade.
This experience has prompted me to measure them to check and I now know they are four and one half inches or 11cms. My fave Georgina Goodman heels which come in at three and one half inches or 9cms make it entirely possible for me to do a whole day on stage in relative comfort – who knew 2 cms would be the straw that broke the camel’s back?
As a result, apart from restraining myself from trotting out cliché’s, and writing suggestive titles for my posts – this is my thrrd in a row and no one has complained! I shall have to declare my incompetence for anything over 10cms and place a height restriction upon myself when shopping for heels.
Actually my struggles to stay upright were nothing compared to the stilts the models were showcasing. Some were so high that we all felt sure there would be a major breakage if one of the marvellously groomed glamazons toppled over – they earn their money this season I’m telling you.
I’m glad to say that all limbs remained unbroken and Neely Rayes and Ian Warren who were celebrating three years in the business and looking to raise funds for more disadvantaged young entrepreneurs like themselves got their models to the end of the evening without the need to visit the local casualty dept.
A happy ending especially as I got to ride home in an Aston Martin.
I’ll sign off now, as I have to organise a marvellous make-over with House of Fraser for Monday for three competition winners hosted by Vodaphone. I can’t wait to show them all the styling tools they need to give their image a boost and be able to choose the right clothes for their body shape.
I shan’t be wearing heels for this. Nice comfortable flats will do me a treat.

I use the length of my thumb (down to the bone at the base of my thumb – near my wrist) as a “handy measure” (no pun intended!) when buying high heels. Anything higher than that distance is a no-no!

Hi,
The shoes look great, but like you, I find it really difficult to walk in high heels. I like the look of gladiator wedges and there is a great pair in Office that you can see on my blog http://www.thefashionfixstyling.blogspot.com. I know I’m able to walk better in a wedge, although even better in flats!!

Nice tip Heather. Consider it passed on to all readers of this blog! I’m wearing Birkenstocks as I write this. Some shoes are just tooooooo comfy for words.
