In a move away from documenting my latest get ups (well for the moment) I’m pleased to spread the word about i-D Soul.
Yes having attended the launch and exhibition at Christies, as part of a global tour – next stop New York, I am moved to get my two daughters there before it finishes next week (details below).
This is because the book Tashen £24.99 and pictured right (and no that eye in the sky has not been digitally airbrushed in) may well turn out to be one of the most important books of the year.
Why? Because it is a beautiful collection of words and thoughts from the heart.
Industry people, artists and pop stars from Georgio Armani to Yoko Ono, Chris Martin and Vivienne Westwood don’t bother talking about fashion music or art.
Instead, along with hundreds of other contributors: super models, international photographers, movers and shakers, they talk about family, relationships, experiences and politics. Things that are fundamental yet often neglected.
As editor Tricia Jones says “Over the years I have become increasingly aware of the extra ordinary responsibility that being an independent voice within the publishing world carries. We have been free to explore ideas and beliefs that are important to us and things that effect all our lives.”
I say it’s a brilliant book and I’m duty bound to tell you that I have contributed to this much needed antidote to the vacuous yet toxic media out pourings we are normally force-fed from so called celebrity culture. Every home should have one.
To conclude Jones say’s “This book is for anyone looking around for another point of view in this consumer-led society.”
I’ll back her up on that!
