It’s a strange thing but hemlines generally go down in the recession and in boom times they rise. I’m telling you this so that you can get a head start on the spring and summer looks ahead.
Although I’ve seen little sign of said midi lengths in your highstreets (remember we see the merchandise in Oct and Nov), there are still plenty of maxi dresses.
So if a summer plummet (hemline wise) tickles your pickle then invest away in the knowledge that you will be able to get it out for the following summer since this recession is predicted to run and run!
I on the other hand am bucking the general trend by raising the hemline for myself. Normally a knee-length devotee, I found that my over the knee boots allow for a certain amount of decorum, when worn with my vintage John Richmond asymmetric dress.
Here’s me pictured just before a Saturday night out with some young people. (Well I was just off to a 40th Birthday party).
It was an interesting time, being a decade older, I felt the need to hold my own fashion wise – I certainly didn’t want to under dress and hey I love a party.
Knowing how to put my look together, being a professional stylist helped (of course I give you all me best tips in my Ageless Style e-book).
Thing is I needn’t have bothered as most were in jeans. There where however some very baggy, harem denim styles out there that I’m not recommending for middle aged women let alone youngsters.
Anyway I digress. The thing is, even though I was wearing a very short skirt and high boots, a recipe for a less than appealing end result on paper, I looked extremely classic by comparison. And classic when you are over 40 is always the best way.
