It’s not often I wear a fitted Lycra catsuit like this one by Danielle Scutt, but the piece I’ve written for the Independent for this Sunday about 80’s fashion required that I…
A: reminisce about the days when I was dressed in bondage strides and Johnson’s boots or had a bald head and wore knee high Doctor Martens and…
B: try out the new generation of looks by young designers influenced by the 80’s.
Regulars will know I’m a fan of a bit of Gareth Pugh anyway so the black and white hooded coat was a perfect choice for me to lounge about the… er… well lounge.
And it was fun to wear the orange flying suit over my catsuit although I did try the fitted Lycra body suit without any diaphanous camouflage for the hips, having been persuaded by two delicious young women – the photographer and the stylist, that I could still look good in it!
God I’ve got a massive ego – I posed in heels of course to elongate my legs after all I wanted the look to flatter my body even though the skin tight look will never be appropriate for a woman of my rank.
Anyway, when the pic came back I realised I looked like a member of a Russian circus and thought better of it and it’s locked away in my files forever.
On a final note as you no doubt remember from previous blogs, Gareth Pugh is seen as one of the edgiest designers we have and his shows are amazngly styled but when you take away the styling, his designs are really very elegant and perfect for a ‘woman of a certain age,’ like me.
