It’s been a mad rush as I came straight off National Wedding Show at the NEC which went on right the way through the weekend to race into a debate at the Houses of Parliament on body image on Monday.
This is me in oration mode on International Women’s Day. (I know it looks as if I haven’t changed out of my green dress by Lali since the Wedding Show…guess it’s my lucky dress right now!)
Anyway, I preferred being in a political seat rather than a Parisien show seat, having already declined the invitation to go to Paris on Monday, where I would be seeing more thin models in preference to a speaking part in a political debate about said models and the wider issues of diversity! (I’m just asking for a more healthy representation from the industry)
This opportunity was set up by Jo Swinson and Lynn Featherstone of the Liberal Democrats as part of their Real Women campaign.
The thing you need to know is that there are some in the fashion industry who hear your yearning for more realistic representation in fashion imagery. It’s has been one of the hardest projects I have ever worked on in 27 years in this industry partly because of the politics of delivering such a tricky project that is All Walks Beyond the Catwalk.
But it’s a subject that has always been close to my heart.
