I’m loving my latest press shot featuring the designs of fashion visionaries in sustainable style – Junky Styling. Joanna Lumley and M&S CEO Marc Bolland, may well be hogging the limelight right now with The Shwop Lab but lets give credit where it’s due!
Junky Styling the adorable design duo of Kerry Seager and Anniker Sanders above, have been doing this for 15 years people…KEEP UP!
As you know I am a fan and have written before about their marvellous designs. So I was surprised to see these two top women hadn’t been credited as ‘thought leaders,’ in the field of upcycling, within the bigger picture, despite the fact that their old shop with the clear black Junky Styling logo appears in the background of the big ole M&S Shwop HQ press shot! STRANGE!
They say ‘The more the merrier,’ and are glad that clothing giants M&S have taken their lead. A huge amount of clothing ends up in landfill each year and Junky Styling have made it their mission to create brand new fashion items with a second life and most importantly a unique ‘one offness,’ which is highly desirable all round I say.
There are other players who deserve a mention too. Dylis Williams – Director for the London College of Fashion Centre for Sustainable Fashion has worked with M&S to bring the idea of Shwopping to the high street and The Shwop Lab will be open every day (10am – 5pm), except Mondays, from 26 April to 9 May, so still a few more days to go.
But if I’ve fired you up with a lust for sustainable style in one form or another then Junky Styling in its brand new premises 21 Hackney Road E2 7NX will be open all day and every day for private commissions and off the peg sales. Designs like these below wait to begin a second like with you!
