As those of you who have downloaded our ebooks, accessories are those added extra touches that will bring your look together and will effect your own individual style. Shoes can make a statement all on their own – here is a question from Suzanne who wants to know which shoes will work with her dress…
Hi there,
I have been given a beautiful Chinese style knee length dress in a browny colour with an almost pink tinge to it and am hoping to wear it to a wedding in a few weeks. I have never worn a dress like this before and am struggling to find a shoe that goes with it. I am a size 14/16 with what can only be referred to as ‘hillwalker’s calves’ so I tend to avoid shoes with ankle straps or even those that are quite high on the foot as they seem to emphasise this. I am 5ft 4.5 so the higher the better, I am quite used to wearing skyscrapers and can dance the night away quite comfortably in them. Any advice will be gratefully received.
Regards
Suzanne
Hello Suzanne
Go for a simple shaped shoe like a court, stiletto or peep toe shoe which will help to give the effect of elongation to your legs and add height as well as an elegant touch to your look. Yet simple doesn’t have to equal boring. Pick up on the pink in your dress with a pink court or peep toe shoe such as these options from Carvela and ASOS. Also a shoe in a velvet or suede version will add a luxe effect and work well with the feel of your Chinese style dress.
You could also opt for a nude or browny coloured shoe. A shoe with a bow detail such as this pair from Dune will add a cutesy edge or a metallic shoe such as this pair from Alexandre Birman will up the glamorous take.
Print and texture will also work well – like this snakeskin print shoe from LK Bennett. We haven’t seen your dress for the specific colours but you could also try a shoe that picks up on the brown/pink hues of your dress such as this pair from Dune.
Finally you could go for a shoe that picks up on both the brown and pink hues of your dress such as this pair from Jeremy Ho.
