Bridal – Traditional wedding dresses

Classic wedding dresses are still extremely popular with women, along with a quintessentially-English setting during the summer months.

Below you will see all the stunning traditional wedding gowns that will suit both your body shape and budget. You no longer have to spend £1000’s on traditional bridal wear to look beautiful on your wedding day, as I’ve discovered here with these examples of styles starting from a few hundred pounds from stores like BHS:

This is a great modern minimalist dress for those who have an easy sensibility. Simple, close-fitting, unstructured and looks flattering on tall, petite and standard brides. The v-neck line flatters those with a bust and the curve at the waist balances out wide shoulders. www.bhs.co.uk.

For a totally simple gown that is retrained in shape an accessory could really bring it to life. A simple jewelled pin (maybe you something borrowed!) on your dress or in your hair has great effect, as does a velvet or satin ribbon tied in your hair.

The simplicity here is… well simply luminous. If you are curvy then designs with minimal detailing and less fuss are all the better. A fitted bodice with a longer length gentle A-line skirt will help to streamline your silhouette. Strapless flatters arms and shoulders too but if you need coverage a dress like this works wonderfully with a cropped jacket as shown below. www.cheapweddingdresses.net.au.

When it comes to entrances it doesn’t have to be all about full on beads, bling or showing skin. A covered-up, refined look can be just as glam and gorgeous. This dress with bolero jacket is elegant and chic and keeps the look interesting. The bolero will cover up arms for those conscious about them and also balance out wide hips and thighs and create the illusion of waist and curves for the more slender and height for petite brides. www.ianstuart-bride.com.

Strapless is universally flattering, working well for both curvy and slender figures but the shape of the neckline is all important. A high straight neckline like this can work well for  slender or angular shapes. Fuller bodies and small bustlines will benefit too. Large cup sizes should avoid an prioritise a strapless gown with a scalloped neckline to create a minimising effect at the bust.

The wide, flared skirt has a smooth sophistication, which will cover pear shapes, big bottoms and low-slung bottoms, and as the dress has a slight empire line effect it will also make legs seem longer. www.silkbrides.com.

To make sure that your big day goes according to plan, the type of wedding you have will always influence the many classic wedding dresses to choose from. Here are some of my tips on how to look good:

  • An English country garden venue in the summer as opposed to a wintry stately home setting will have a bearing on your choices without you realising it.

  • Gloves are best worn with traditional style gowns and should never be pulled over the elbow or stretched taut.

  • Veils are becoming less popular but if you want one, then go ahead they add magic after all. Just remove the plastic comb it comes with and get your hairdresser to pin it in for you, that way you can remove it later without damaging your hair.

  • Give yourself time to choose your dress by trying on as many styles as you like.
