This season designers declared all-white, pale nude and pretty pastel shades the colours to be seen in. While see-through panels were the ultimate way to flash flesh tones (your own) while remaining demure.
All White (Stella McCartney)
Stella McCartney is officially the queen of understated cool. Her Paris show provided a master class in how to get dressed for spring. In particular one look stood out, a vision of pure, clear white. Wearing all white may sound daunting, but this relaxed, roomy shirt dress, to dress up or down this summer, made the decision simple. Who could resist?
Blush (Donna Karan)
Donna Karen’s collection took New York fashion week by storm. She presented a simple, elegant collection of weightless dresses that seemed to move with, not against the female form – all in the new ultra feminine, washed out colour palette of the season. This standout dress in blush pink highlighted just how much Karan’s dresses were inspired by the female form, designed almost as an extension of the body.
Pastel Shades (Burberry Prorsum)
This season Christopher Bailey brought Burberry back home to England to celebrate 25 years of London Fashion Week. The result was one of his best collections yet. The focus was twisted chiffons and satins in pretty pastel shades. There were confection like dresses and filmy blouses all in candyfloss shades, which looked lighter than air. The show was such a triumph that Burberry is staying in London for another season. Bravo Bailey!
See-through (Christian Dior)
Have you been wondering how to flash some flesh at the season’s up coming parties while still remaining demure? The answer was clear at Dior where John Galliano worked sheer panels in to elegant floral maxi dresses. The result was feminine not full on. Modesty was saved by vintage flesh toned lingerie that prettily peeped through these see-though chiffons.
