Catwalk fashion report 80′s Fashion
The 1980s continued to be a source of great inspiration for designers this season. Many were growing up, falling in love with fashion during the decade, while for others it was where their careers began. The result was an archive of fashion history from early new romantics to the glam and glitz of the excessive late Eighties.

Dynasty (Marc Jacobs)
Alexis Colby eat your heart out. Marc Jacobs’ eponymous New York show paid homage to all that was great and good about the 80′s before it got too carried away with itself and colour, volume, frills and fun burst from his runway. With his show stopping dresses proving just the antidote we all need to recession doom and gloom. The puffy cocktail dress will be a key look come the Christmas party season. The bolder, the brighter the better.

Leather (Michael Kors)
Leather is big news for autumn/winter 09/10. Versatile, hard wearing and perfect for work and play, it’s a luxe texture that’s worth investing in now. Michael Kors eternal inspiration is 80′s fashion style icon Lauren Hutton. His leather pieces referenced that decade’s key look – strong women who oozed power and sex appeal. Teamed with this season’s key accessory, the statement necklace, this look reminded editors in the catwalk front row just how exciting power dressing can be.

Sequins (Tibi)
No single piece of clothing says the Eighties like a sequin jacket. From Michael Jackson to Madonna everyone had one. Tibi in New York brought the look right up to date for the new season with a shimmering black sequined tuxedo jacket. Just the right side of shiny, teamed with a simple pair of slim line black trousers and another Eighties throwback – a pair of huge earrings – it instantly became a key piece.

New Romantics (D&G)
But let’s go right back to the beginning! The early 80’s provided the inspiration for this fashion trend, think Adam Ant meets Princess Diana – and at D&G the frilled shirt was key to the look. Borrowing much from the New Romantics, this is a theatrical, dramatic look. No need to complicate it with much else, simply teamed with black pants the leg of mutton white shirt with ruffled high neck is a statement piece of the new season.
