High street fashion Architectural
Clean lines, minimalist fashion, sculptural tailoring and dramatic silhouettes are not just the remit of designer labels this season. The high street has upped the anti when it comes to design and fabric innovation to produce some striking new fashion pieces.
The Cape
Trust Jaeger to create the perfect winter cape. The British label celebrates its 125 anniversary this year and has plundered the archives for inspiration – like this classic heritage piece. As with its catwalk incarnation, this cape needs little extra styling. Its clean architectural lines create enough drama. Capes work best with trousers, whether boot leg or slim line, and black trousers provide the perfect blank canvas for this stark yet sophisticated look.
Scaffold Tailoring
LK Bennett’s scaffold tailored skirt suit fits beautifully, and has all the hall marks of an investment piece to keep forever. The gently sculpted shoulder is very this season, yet will endure past this January. The flattering knee length skirt defies fashions ever-shifting hemlines to be perennially stylish, while the cinched waist and tailored paneling will streamline any figure. Just add heels.
Bold Shoulder
If you only buy on thing this season make sure it has a bold shoulder. Far and away the biggest trend for winter, the new shoulder shape has been interpreted all over the high street. This jumper is one of our favourites – not too dramatic, but just bold enough, plus easier to wear than a stiff shouldered jacket. If you are a jeans girl, team it with them; if you need to look smart for work wear with tights and a belt; and for winter’s parties put it over leggings and team with high heels. Techno Florals
