So how does the highstreet interpret this catwalk trend? With
ease is the answer. Pick your favourite styles and shapes and
mix them together. You’ll have plenty left from last season
to work with because the floral prints, and flared skirts are
still there. Look at the bottom of this page for a checklist
of key items to add to your wardrobe.
This is a perfect example
of how the fashion forward end of the highstreet is
selling the romantic peasant look. Miss Selfridge as shown here
is on the case but flared skirts with embroidery, even appliqué
or netting underneath will be in abundance in many shops and
stores.
See how this skirt is worn with a sturdy brown boot
(another key buy and perfect for the spring into summer).
There will be lots of frayed edges on tops and jackets as well
as the skirts themselves and the look can be styled in a loose
and feminine way.
See how the chunky jewellery with natural wood, shells and
raffia is added to push the look further. Checkout Spring
Jewellery Looks for hot jewellery trends this season.
A much softer version
of the look is put together by Monsoon and would be
a perfect look for a peasant style dress plus size. Don’t
forget to download a free e-book for tips on how the peasant
look can be worn on a curvy figure.
This thin knit wrap cardigan would accentuateyour curves and create definition when worn
with a contrasting colour bodice. The camisole shown here is
embroidered for that ‘vintage’ feel and hangs below
the waistline - blurring the hard edge for a softer more dishevelled
feminine and romantic look, this is something you can affect
easily with your clothes as you style them.
The skirt has layers of silk with different textures and when
worn with beaded flat shoes has a soft and floaty appeal. A
skirt like this will be a versatile buy and can just as easily
be worn with sturdy flat boots.
This Victoriana cotton
blouse will be your best buy this season if you favour
a more conventional look. It can be dressed up or down to look
equally at home with jeans and flat boots or indeed the flared
gypsy skirt. We found this look from Dorothy Perkins but Victoriana
influenced clothes will be everywhere.
Notice again how layering is a big part of the style
with shorter summer jackets over longer tops. It’s up
to you how much you want to dress up or down your clothes and
how much you want to take on where trends are concerned.
And your cowboy boots
bought last season are still a key part of the look
when worn with a tiered skirt in harmonious natural colours
like this look by Per Una.
To sum up, the romantic hippie is a look where you
can indulge and explore a soft feminine style that
gives you the flexibility to wear loose unstructured clothes
in layers and a variety of colours. Have some fun!
