It’s pick and mix fashion in this section. Use your own favourite garments in a layered way and buy coloured belts, scarves and smock tops to build the look. Read our guide at the bottom of this page to find our checklist for your wardrobe.

Long dresses were huge on the catwalk and this summer the long cotton dress will be a great way of adding some exotica to your day or evening looks. Yes I did say daytime too because the dresses are designed to be worn as part of a layered look with small jackets or wrap cardigans, long scarves, beads and wedge sandals.

This one is from Dorothy Perkins but there will be a large variety in all the more trend driven shops.

The great thing about dresses this length is they make a dramatic statement in themselves and for lazy summer lunches, garden parties, and dress-up barbeques just throw it on and go!

Too much for you? Don’t get hung up on those 1970’s disco fashions that could leave a bad taste in anyone’s mouth! Just have at look at picture number three for a more casual-look longer length.

It’s the flared skirt again with a smock top this time from Miss Selfridge. See how the flat boot and the large chunky belt gives it a high fashion look – it’s all about the styling and how much you choose to adhere to looks that came off the catwalk.

Split the look up to create a more conventional style for yourself however by wearing the smock top with jeans or cropped trousers or take the idea of a patterned skirt and wear it with a plain blouse and your favourite sandals. The patterned flared skirt if you don’t have one already will be one of your best buys.

Monsoon is a label well known for beautiful colours and exotic (often Asian inspired) designs. They show the longer length skirt with a halterneck top for that same exotica and full on Hippie take. This is more casual though, when worn as a two-piece. The plaited leather belt will be a great accessory to wear with jeans, shorts or over flared skirts and tops.

I predict there will be loads of longer length skirts coming through in the catalogues maybe next summer to pick on this look for women who are less adventurous and need to see it around for a while before diving in.

Cheesecloth tops and kaftan style tops are also going to feature in your shops. A Style like this from New Look is so very adaptable when worn over jeans or a skirt and given an ornate belt to finish it off.

This is a great style for curvy figures when worn loose and flowing, but if you want a more convention take on the trend then just look out for the cheesecloth blouses and tunics that will be available too.
