From 70’s St. Tropez to sailor utility, this new nautical
trend offers more tailoring that the other themes. This is the
look for a more pulled together outfit with white stitched jackets,
stripes and wide but soft trousers being the backbone of the
look.
A catalogue like La
Redoute is up on trends and well worth a quick perusal
for their fuller and longer length designs. They also have (the
permanently attired Breton wearer) Jean Paul Gaultier, designing
a range especially for them. This nifty denim shorts and stripy
shirt is the rather racy result – email me immediately
with a picture if you intend wearing your shorts so short this
summer (a Marge Simpson swimsuit than a casual cruise wear statement
I’d say). I will of course send you your very own ‘100%
Woman no added ingredients t-shirt’ courtesy of the How
to Look Good team by return if your picture makes it onto our
office wall!
The point being shorts and stripes will definitely
cut the mustard this summer – choose a dark indigo
denim for your skirt or shorts and white accessories to finish
the look.
have styled a much more ladylike version of the nautical
style. A white skirt or cropped trousers with a tailored navy
blazer is given a catwalk edge with this season's ubiquitous
pearls and white handbag.
This is such a classic look that it will give you
seasons of wear. Stay on a conventional line by adding
flat sandals or kitten heels or add wedges of any description
or t-bar heels for a more fashion forward look.
This style from Long
Tall Sally is a great example of how your fitted denim jacket
(many of you will already have one as they have been
around for a few seasons now) can work with the classic Breton
– style top and a flared skirt.
It’s a much more conventional look and could be accessorised
with up to the minute wedges or classic kitten heel shoes in
white.
It’s about bold
slabs of primary colour. Use layering as in this look
from Dorothy Perkins to give the nautical look a looser feel
and add shell jewellery raffia pendants and any of your own
favourite trinkets to give an individual feel.
The key with all the trends we have flagged up
is to have fun. Now that you have got an angle on the styles
you can use to update your wardrobe, read through an e-book
on your body shape to help you choose the right looks for you.
Remember fit and flatter first – fashion second. Take
this key thought with you when ever you shop and choose your
clothes confidently to suit you.
