White
Catwalks were awash with top to toe white for spring
and summer. It’s a regular spring fashion trend. Great
on the catwalk, tricky on a day-to-day basis, but hey, don’t
discount this white dress trend completely. For this spring
fashion look, anything goes from muted tones to sparkling shades
so long as it’s white or… well… very light
shall we say! So let’s make this spring fashion trend
work for you.

Firstly lets start with this
gorgeous white dress from New Look, fresh light
and airy the empire line is super flattering and a big shape
with designers this season. The vintage feel to this dress is
very much a continuation of the past couple of seasons, but
a simple white summer dress would work just as well and if you
like the idea of wearing top to toe white, its one of the simplest
ways to achieve the look. Expect to see tons of white dresses
around, which look fab teamed with espadrilles, wedges or leather
sandals in neutral tones and natural fabrics.
Note the oversized sunglasses, this is a key style for summer
eye wear and a pair can be picked up for as little as £4
on the high street, try on all shapes and sizes to get the right
frame for your face.
Fabrics and textures play a huge part in the trend with Victoriana
lingerie being a big influence. Your cream Victoriana shirts
from last season will be perfect to recreate the look, also
look out for crisp cottons, broderie anglaise detailing, pressed
linen and pretty lace on tops and skirts.

George @ Asda
have mixed layers creating a slight prairie look that has seen
huge commercial success on the high street over the last couple
of seasons. However in a move away from the hippy vibe of floor
skimming skirts and dresses, the new length to be wearing is
just below or just above the knee. As with much of spring 2006
and fashion trends for summer there are no tricky styling elements
to the white look, keep things simple and you are half way there.

This Long Tall Sally
picture illustrates a point I make many times that you don’t
need to follow fashion trends to the letter, take inspiration
and adapt them to fit your own personal style. Not only are
these black shorts more practical than white ones, they are
edgier and generally easier to wear, teamed with the white pin
tuck Victoriana style blouse this look has a finger on the fashion
pulse, without being too in your face.
If you are tall this is a great way to wear the look because
you are making an obvious colour break at the hips, which will
create a foreshortening effect. Great then that this look comes
from Long Tall Sally.

Another misconception is that
curvy fashion followers should steer clear of white altogether.
Very wrong! Choose muted white tones as opposed to the harshness
of brilliant white and mix with other light tones. We found
this off white baby doll top - a super flattering garment from
Evans, which, skims the curves and finishes
below the hip. In this instance the jeans give a touch more
structure to the silhouette, making it less ‘milk maid’
and more on trend when finished off with some cute pumps –
this season essential.
