Modernist
This season spring fashion is all about minimalism
and nowhere is that better illustrated than in the Modernist
trend. If you want to know about the latest fashion trends in
the UK and how to wear them, this is the style that will be
adopted by the more ‘fashion forward’ out there.
Choose a couple of key pieces and keep accessories to a minimum.
Look out for chunky black beads, a waist cinching belt and black
patent heels.

Although the least commercial
of the looks I am going to show you, Miss Selfridge
have captured the mood of the Modernist trend perfectly,
the place for all those who want the latest fashion trends in
the UK, this store has built a profile for high fashion with
an individual and contemporary approach.
Very much in the style of the pencil skirt shapes this garment
moves out of classicism and into edgy. Make your existing pencil
skirt work for you by teaming it with a fitted black shirt or
top, a cropped black jacket and patent heels.

Draped jersey, leggings and
cowl necks are key. This 80’s inspired jumpsuit from New
Look is perfect for tall women and other model shapes.
The rest of us however can enjoy a draped jersey dress with
the same cowl neckline over leggings. Do look for deep cowl
neck tops if you have an apple shaped figure, as this will be
a great season to stockpile a shape that suits you.
The Modernist trend also offers an opportunity to add a bit
of colour to what is largely a season of muted whites and beige.
Look out for bold reds and 80’s cobalt blue for an up
to the minute fashion look.

The Tulip Skirt. A move on
from the traditional pencil skirt, this will be your key skirt
for the season if you aim to thrill with your fashion knowledge.
Worn high on the waist, the ‘Tulip’ puffs out over
the hips and tapers into a fitted shape finishing just above
the knee, its fab for giving curves to a boyish frame and can
accentuate the curves of the hourglass silhouette too.
This River Island version is in the fabric
of the moment – metallic linen, although there will be
tons of varieties across the high street, choose one in a heavy
cotton for a more flattering line over the hips and bottom.
It’s a great look for both the office and an evening out,
wear yours with a fitted shirt, a roll neck top or simple fitted
vest, some chunky beads and always with heels.

A more casual take on the trend
is seen here from Mango. And once again it’s
all about the skirt.
Worn on the hips it’s a looser version of the Tulip,
its casual, utility feel means it will stand a less “styled”
look than its smarter versions. Team yours with flat ballet
pumps and bring in some red and blue with nautical stripes or
double layered t-shirts. Always remember - keep it simple with
clean lines and no fuss. ‘Boho’ this aint!
