Resort
The high street has really embraced this trend so
expect to see a huge explosion of red white and blue. The commercial
fashion trends for summer 2006 are all about relaxed tailoring.
Whether it be a touch of French ‘oo la la’ with
pretty chiffon polka dot blouses, a-line dresses and skirts,
or a cleaner more masculine look with wide leg trousers (a great
alternative if this season’s must have drainpipes just
aren’t for you), you’ll find plenty to work with.
Fish out your classic bretton style stripe tops (which you should
have from last year) and blazer style jackets and bring them
to the front of your wardrobe. At howtolookgood we like to make
the fashion trends for summer 2006 as simple possible, so here’s
how.

River Island have
taken a masculine approach to the look with a bit of an 80’s
twist (also a huge trend for the season) Big lapels and the
double breasted fastening have all the hallmarks of a sailors
coat cut into a ultra chic crop style.
White jeans are big news for spring summer, and these drainpipe
jeans are a great example, However being neither practical or
universally flattering, this look would work just as well with
the much looser wide leg sailor pants in white, or to keep the
80’s fiitted look, wear with your indigo blue drainpipe
jeans from last season.

Shorts will be your key buy
for this season. For the daring amongst you, here is a great
example from trend focussed Mango on how to
wear short shorts. Baggy, cuffed and not too short is the key.
One tip for short shorts: Always wear with wedges, (and a slather
of fake tan) the height will elongate your legs and give better
posture and the chunky heel will give the illusion of slimmer
calves.
|
But do not fear if short shorts
don’t do it for you (and goodness knows we’ll get
a sack load of letters), let us allay your anxieties with a
safer and much more flattering option - the ultra chic, wide
leg culottes, Finishing just below the knee, they give balance
to curvy and slim figures alike, however petite shapes be careful
not to wear yours too long or too wide, alternatively opt for
tailored long shorts which finish just above the knee for an
equally on trend look.
Also do bear in mind that even though it is the key colour
for Spring Summer, dark colours - like these Marks &
Spencer shorts pictured here - are generally more streamlining
and well just loads easier to wear for longer than two hours
than unforgiving white, and this will certainly be translated
onto the high street.

This cute polka dot a-line dress
from Matalan has bags of cheeky French charm,
although when recreating the look be wary of the “Minnie
Mouse” effect with polka dot and stripe overload, this
dress works well because of its simplicity. Look out for stripy
or polka dot accessories like neck scarves, handbags, belts,
shoes and jewellery, team one on its own with your staple wardrobe
favourites: white vest, jeans and fitted jacket for a subtle
but chic nod to the trend.
