Monochrome
For summer 2007 the classic monochrome palette returns
as playful prints, bold, graphic silhouettes and in retro ‘60s
looks.

Like many designers this season
Luella Bartley looked back to the ‘60s for
inspiration, this time working her signature cool Brit style into
a ‘60s mod theme.
Black and white alphabet print mac’s, sexy skinny jeans and
monochrome print party dresses (that will be a hit with young stars
like Lilly Allen and Mischa Barton) were all styled with pointy
winkle picker shoes and huge, neon patent bags. At times the story
was too literal, with accessories like plastic white glasses really
over egging the pop theme, but this is the way Luella always works
a look for the youth market, leaving it up to the bigger luxury
brands to take a more subtle and serious approach.

At Gucci in Milan
monochrome was the big story and again the ‘60s mod look was
the reference point.
The skinny pants, iconic flat pointy shoes, pre requisite, oversized
shades and vinyl macs all played on the pop theme but here the look
is more sexy, polished to perfection and perfect for the grown up
and groomed Gucci woman.

Gucci
Black and white, trapeze-line mini dresses featured jewel encrusted
collars and were styled with mirrored bags and shoes. This moved
the look on from pop/factory girl to space princess and illustrates
the importance of metallic texture in every theme this summer.

At Balenciaga,
black and white was skinny, sharp and fiercely modern. This is where
the super lean silhouette originated and for summer monochrome gingham
shirts came with slim vinyl trims and collars and were tucked into
glossy second skin pants.
