Fragile layers and long billowing
gowns bring romance to the summer, and metallic fabrics and
sequins add polish to first class, deluxe hippie looks.
Dresses remain as the all important anchor of the summer
wardrobe. From the A - line trapeze to the ‘shroom’
sleeved shift, all designers agree that the only way is up
and hemlines shrink back to miniscule proportions not seen
since the ‘60s.
For no nonsense dressing there's the new sporty look - where
anti - fit dresses, short sporty anorak’s, high tech
parka’s and leggings all evoke a casual ‘80s sport
theme.
Acid colour also returns, as do second skin fetish dresses
and the '80s body con silhouette, a theme strictly for the
brave and the bold.
Colour jolts back to life after a murky winter, and a powdery
neutral palette of nude, grey and white sits happily alongside
neon’s, acid yellow and vibrant turquoise blue.
The timeless monochrome palette is another big colour story
for spring and again references the sixties, which is still
an infatuation to most designers this year. (Films like Factory
Girl, which stars Sienna Miller, is released in March and
which tells the life story of ‘60s icon and Andy Warhol’s
muse Edie Sedgwick – are sure to compound this trend
as one of the biggest looks of the season.)
Finally metallic inhabits all trends this summer. Gold,
silver, bronze, sequins, satin and meteor sized jewels encrusted
onto necklines, shoes and bags, all add polish to the season’s
biggest looks, or are used to enhance a hi-tech, space age,
futuristic feel.
