Modern Sport
On the surface, Modern Sport is one of the trickiest
to pull off in terms of mass appeal. In fact it’s a look
that balances informal practicality with a groomed feminine
chic and I predict will become your casual look of choice for
this spring summer. Modern Sport takes its influence from the
80’s but please forget bad shell suits, new high tech
nylons, satins and silks reign supreme, sexy cut vests,‘anti-fit’
dresses, the essential glammed up version of the original Parka
jacket all in neutral tones of beige, white, grey with splashes
of acid colour in neon yellow, hot orange and vibrant blue.
Now, if the 80’s still seem like a bad reoccurring
dream, don’t worry, here we show you how to make the trend
work for you, trust us, you are going to love it…

Primark
At first glance, this is a youth full take on the trend and
not many of us can pull off silver lame leggings with such panache,
however the main point of reference – and a good place
to start - is this gorgeous acid blue parka jacket. One of the
most important items for the season, the parka has been revitalised
and glammed up from its heady days or army surplus attire, silk
lightweight fabrics have provided a softer all round sexier
edge, with feminine drawstring pockets and big collars. Be assured,
you will see versions all over the high street, and again its
one for all shapes and sizes. Look out for cropped versions
if you are petite, to avoid being dwarfed. Try yours with a
thin belt to create a waist and fashion edge and team with jeans,
dresses, vest shorts, you name it, experiment, but keep layers
unfussy and clean lines, but most of all enjoy, practical and
chic all at once, it doesn’t happen often!!

It’s easy to think that
Modern Sport is all leggings and vests but Jaeger
show how a refined, sophisticated look can be just as effective.
The Silk button through shirt and matching cigarette pants would
work for both a work or an evening look, again keep things unfussy
and wear simple stilettos in nude and accessorize with a gold
python leather bag look out for rolled shirt sleeves, oversized
shirts in silk and stain fabrics and also drawstring waist detailing
and big pockets. Tip. Keep your outfit in 1 colour head to toe
and it will elongate your frame.

Jersey – one of the main
stays of any sport trend, and non-better than this anti-fit
drape dress from H&M, a real throw on and
look fabulous buy. It’s such an easy piece to wear, although
may need shortening if you are petite, and try creating waist
or hip definition with a belt if you have a large. Styling wise
it would look great with last season’s leggings, or alternatively
look for ones with go faster stripes down the sides to be really
on-trend, your favourite drainpipe jeans and a waistcoat. It
would be fab with toe post sandals or the shoe of the season
– the wedge, with plastic detailing to hint at the futuristic,
Russell and Bromley and Kurt Geiger are great places to go.
Again an oversized bag and big sunglasses will finish the look.

Finally, a mix of polished
and casual from Evans who show you how a parka
can remain glam and chic with heels and a dress, sleeves are
rolled to give a more flattering finish in the arm and the heels
add a touch of sexy, whilst a chunky bracelet adds a touch of
stylish polish. It really is a jacket – and a trend for
all occasions, and all shapes and sizes.
Fashion Tip, update your old jeans and white t-shirt combo
with a flash of neon for an instant Modern Sport feel. Look
out for neon belts, shoes, bags and nail polish across the high
street for a simple way to accessorize yourself into the trend.
