The world is facing some tough times ahead. Fashion’s answer to that this spring was not to abandon glamour, but to gently acknowledge its importance in our lives at tie when we need a ift. Glamour was toned down and extravagance kept to a minimum, but there was still room for quietly beautiful pieces to shine.

If you only buy one dress this season make it one shouldered. From garden parties to summer weddings the one shoulder dress will ensure your fashion credentials shine at every event you have. Take your style cues from Lanvin, almost the entire collection was made up of one shoulder pieces.

The Parisian fashion house and its Creative Director, Alber Elbaz have become synonymous with beautiful occasion wear, with every A-lister worth their red carpet invites choosing Lanvin when they want to dazzle.

Colour exploded on to the catwalk and for the new season and the new way to wear it is bright. Fashion adventurers should try colour blocking two contrasting tones, while for everyone else the answer to how to wear this trend can be found in summer’s hot hued dresses.

Ralph Lauren is a master of luxury sportswear and relaxed glamour. The message from his catwalk in New York was clear; inject everything you wear with instant glam by choosing high shine satins and silks. Simple pieces including traditional khaki cargo pants and safari shirts as well as loose summer pants and pretty shirts were transformed in to elegant and covetable pieces when crafted from luxe shiny fabrics in warm buttery shades of cream, white and gold.

When Miuccia Prada sends a look down the catwalk it’s guaranteed to become an instant new season must-have. Last season it was her otherworldly lace creations. For spring/summer 09 it was gleaming, metallic gold. How much gold to adopt will depend on the occasion. For maximum impact Prada styled her model’s head to toe – including matching gold shoes. We’re expecting metallics to be everywhere this summer.
