Minimalist

If you like to keep things simple this is the fashion trend for you this summer. The classic shift was back as were monochrome prints and futurist tailoring. It all made for a grown up take on summer dressing.

Shift dress: Karen Millen
Just in time for the inauguration of a new world style icon, Michelle Obama, the catwalks revisited the classic first lady look – the Jackie O shift. Updated it for 2009 with architectural lines and modern details which also give the look a minimalist, nineties feel. Karen Millen’s belted shift is a modern classic that can be teamed with a blazer for work, or dressed up with metallic sandals and jewellery for summer cocktail parties. It can also be teamed with black tights and a layered over a long sleeve top to give it longevity in your wardrobe right through to autumn.

Soft Tailoring: Jaeger
Suits can sometimes be harsh and difficult to carry off, especially outside of the office. However spring's relaxed tailoring changes all that. It’s smart but sporty at the same time and uncomplicated to wear. Gently belted jackets, soft body skimming shapes, and trousers that rest most flatteringly just above the ankle are the new wear to wear a suit now. Jaeger’s dove grey is also the perfect shade for spring.

Future-chic: Oasis
White looks very fresh for summer and the essence of this trend is to look as crisp and modern as possible. The clean lines and gentle architectural tailoring of this dress proves it’s the perfect summer piece with an uber flattering hemline and easy to wear neckline. Team with silver accessories and a sleek hairstyle for this summer’s ultra modern feel.

Monochrome: Jesire
Classic black and white was updated for 2009 in the shape of the arty print this season. Team this dress with chic black accessories if you want to keep things simple or flash your fashion flare by adding colour popping accessories (another huge trend this summer) such as a pair of red shoes or a muticoloured clutch. The monochrome look is the perfect blank canvas for your own individual style.
