Victorian Romance
Vintage styled clothing is everywhere this season, still proving
popular with designers and retailers alike. As fans of vintage
styled clothing will know, there’s an added edge of individuality
to be had. It may not be a cleverly spotted purchase from a
second hand shop, but even so mass-produced vintage styled clothing
gives off the same allure. Use this season’s Victorian
trend to give your personal style a gothic edge.

This look comes in
many guises and I’ve started off with a highly
styled image from Mango. Essentially it is a slimline pant,
a white high-necked blouse and a frock coat, which when pulled
together with the accessories gives a striking result.
It is a strict austere look and very catwalk oriented.
But actually when you remove the accessories and runway hair
you are left with a much more simple but just as striking look.
There are ways of course to affect a less noticeable style but
still remain totally on trend as I show you in our next picture.

I’m always saying
how it’s possible to use as little or as much of the trend
as you like. This styling idea from House of Fraser
is a great example of the Victorian influence paired right down.
Shorts for those who fancy it are an option and as this summer
has proved, we all like a cropped trouser and heels. Choose
front pleated tweedy trousers for a more commercial take and
a pin tuck high-necked lace shirt.
This works well for those who prefer less drama
in fact Victorian style blouse might be all you choose from
this trend. But when worn with your existing jeans and skirts
will revamp your look.

Still with a flavour
of the loose peasant styles that sold so well over
summer is this net skirt and fitted jacket ensemble from Kookai.
Big colours are black and navy blue mixed to give a gothic edge,
and a look like this adapts well to the party season too. Look
out for net, lace and vintage effect fabrics.
Petrol blue court shoes would give this look a very
on trend edge and black boots will work equally well
too

Heavy velvets, brocades
and dark satins are all traditional autumn winter fabrics
and you can have fun by creating a less formal and softer look
for special occasion wear like this style put together by House
of Fraser.
A patterned frock coat will be a great purchase to
see you through into the colder months and can be worn with
everything from velvet-embellished skirts through to dark blue
drainpipe jeans.

The key with all the
trends we have flagged up is to have fun. Now that
you have got an angle on the styles you can use to update your
wardrobe, read through an e-book on your body shape to help
you choose the right looks for you. Remember fit and flatter
first – fashion second. Take this key thought with you
when ever you shop and choose your clothes confidently to suit
you.
