1960’s fashion re surfaces again using monochrome colours
and optical patterns. Wear your 1960’s fashion looks in
soft black and belted at the waist - much more commercial than
the boxy shapes offered by designers and of course then retailers
of two years ago. So don’t rule out this trend since the
unforgiving silhouette of the original 1960’s fashion
look has been replaced with gentle lines and flattering cuts.
This simple jacket by
Marks and Spencer is a great example of what I mean.
The feminine hood harps more to Pierre Cardin than Mary Quant
and has an elegance that allows for a classic interpretation.
Wear yours with jeans or black culottes to give it an edge.
This look by Miss Selfridge
shows another variation on the shorts that are in your
shops this autumn and winter, which when teamed with thick tights
and muted sweater tops are wholly practical.
Take a plain polo neck sweater and add belt at the
waist to make a current look out of items you already
have in your wardrobe.
Wear this look with knee high boots for a funky and more daring
take.
Cape styles are a great
look this season but often feel strongly retro on the
body; hence I have never bought one myself. This woven cape
style jacket with sleeves by Marks and Spencer is a much better
way to wear the look. If you fancy a change from the cropped
jacket your bought in summer, then this will fit the bill.
Team with maxi length skirts and skinny trousers to work the
whole look.
Up date any trouser
suit you have with a baker boy hat and a long narrow scarf.
This picture from Next is chosen especially to show you how
commercial the look can be so that you don’t feel it is
a difficult one to wear.
Or take your plain trouser suit and add polo neck
sweater and slim line belt at the waist. As far as
shoes are concerned remember the ‘winkle pickers’
of the era and plump for a pointed toe or Chelsea boot style
with your trousers.
The key with all the
trends we have flagged up is to have fun. Now that
you have got an angle on the styles you can use to update your
wardrobe, read through an e-book on your body shape to help
you choose the right looks for you. Remember fit and flatter
first – fashion second. Take this key thought with you
when ever you shop and choose your clothes confidently to suit
you.
