1940s Fashion
If the recurrent Bohomenian styles of the past few
seasons have left you feeling dishevelled, then the 1940’s
fashion trend for this fall - autumn winter should provide a
welcome return to the days of glamour, sophistication and polish.
Have fun with pencil skirts, wrap dresses, wide leg trousers,
winter tweeds and faux fur trims – these are all essentials,
oh and of course the obligatory red lipstick. Jewellery: keep
it modern and simple avoid the temptation to go full on forties
with a pearl necklace and earrings. It’s not about recreating
the look and these could age your look - and you! |

This pencil skirt and jacket combination is a great investment
look and adaptable enough to last for seasons to come. The 'moc
croc' belt is a strong nod to the 1940’s fashion trend,
a great trick for hourglass and pear shape women to highlight
your waistline, Apple shape women will look fabulous in a pencil
skirt, team with an equally structured jacket to give you more
shape on your torso but wear open with an open neck shirt or
flattering v neck jumper underneath in a contrasting colour
to create a slimming block down your front. Accessorize this
look with leather or suede gloves, great heels in a boot, platform
courts, or patent Mary Janes and a boxy 'moc croc' bag. |

Mango
Flirty and fun, a great alternative to the fitted silhouette
of pencil skirt and waist cincher belt is a wrap dress –
The diagonal lines cut to wrap around the body create a super
flattering v neckline it has long been a wardrobe staple for
women of all shapes. Utilize yours by adding a belt at the waist,
a thick double buckle belt would look equally as good as the
thin version chosen here, heavy black opaque tights, court shoes
and a beret for full on 1940’s glamour. A polo neck worn
underneath gives further mileage to the look. Workable if you
have a pear shape, as the cut will skim your round hips whilst
accentuating your tiny waist. Fuller figures and apple shape
women, avoid styles with small prints, look for 1 colour dresses
in dark tones – try this season’s favourite hue
– plum, or larger block prints as these will be far more
flattering over your tummy.

With all focus being on waistlines
this fall - autumn/winter; high waisted trousers and skirts
are sure to be all over the high street. This may not be the
easiest shape for all of us to wear but careful styling will
adapt the look to your body shape. Boyish, hourglass, and petite
frames are perfect for the high waist cut, it can also work
for apple frames creating an almost corset like effect, streamlining
your waist line, especially when worn with a looser shape on
top, as Mango have shown here. Pear shape women
may struggle to get a good fit on the waist, and fuller women
who carry most of their weight on their tummy should also avoid.
Certainly experiment and like with all fashion have fun. Look
out for tweeds and heavy wool styles and wear with lighter fabrics
on top such as chiffon pussy bow shirts, and silk blouses for
sultry sophistication. |

An alternative to the high waisted
trouser at Mango is a to keep the wide leg look so perfect for
the 1940’s fashion trend and layer over with a top using
a separate belt to create waist definition. French Connection
has used a belted cardigan to great effect here with standard
high extra wide trousers, but a pencil skirt would look equally
good. Petite women, make sure your trousers aren’t too
wide and pear shape women make sure your top doesn’t finish
at your widest point, slightly higher on the hip would be much
more flattering for you. Experiment with different belt widths
too, thicker belts, especially in dark colours are great if
you have tummy, just don’t fasten too tightly. |
