Texture
In essence the trend with the widest scope for interpretation
is ‘Texture,’ and as one of the easiest to incorporate
into your fall - autumn/winter wardrobe, it’s accessible
to all regardless of your shape and size. Essentially it’s
about fabrics, tweeds and silks, velvet and wool, cotton and
metallics, mixing them together to create chic contrasts. Detailing,
such as embellishment in feathers and jewels, faux fur trims
(although the fashion pack seem to have alarmingly reverted
back to using the real thing - you don’t have to) are
also important and will be a high street favourite. |
Tweed, Faux Fur and patent are
mixed together with this look from Mango illustrating
the essence of the Texture trend perfectly. The mix of fabrics
gives a chic contemporary styled edge to a standard winter coat.
Heavy tweeds always look chic for winter and there will be a
huge choice across the high street, suede, wool and leather
coats would work equally as well. Use a faux fur stole as an
alternative to cuffs and try a belt in a contrasting colour
such as red, bronze tan, silver, gold, mustard or even cobalt
blue to add definition to your waistline. |

Silk and satin mixed with heavy
knits has long been a sumptuous feminine blend. Kept simple,
this silk dress and long cardigan from Oasis
is given a polished edge by creating a waistline with the season
favourite - waist belt. Black opaques and platform heels make
this flirty not frumpy. Take inspiration from the idea and try
silk and satin blouses with jeans, trousers and a cashmere or
cable knit cardigan. Experiment creating a more defined silhouette
with belts - try belting over a blouse and wearing the cardigan
open, however keep in mind sleek and polished sophistication,
this is not an excuse to wear your favourite 10 year old winter
cardi that has seen better days! Invest in one of the new modern
shapes for contemporary cool. |
Look out for interesting detailing
in knit wear this season, as design technology becomes ever
more sophisticated we are seeing a lot more experimentation
in textiles, jacquard finishes, metallic sheens and embroidered
detailing like this polo neck from Miss Selfridge
which offers another way to create texture to your look. Teamed
with a 'lux' velvet jacket (another season favourite on the
catwalk) and hardy denim cut off shorts, notice the colour tones
have been kept the same creating a seemingly effortless look. |

Embellishment is a fantastic
tool to subtly wear texture. Nothing garish and over stated;
less is more when it comes to wearing beading and jewels. Jesire
have come up with a perfect combination here, using a combination
of an embossed silk fabric with simple bejewelled beading at
the neckline, it’s a sophisticated nod to texture, look
out for beading on cardigans and jumpers, blouses and other
dresses, it’s a great party look too! |
