Block Colour
Designers have injected some life and colour into
the traditionally sombre fall – autumn / winter fashion collections.
It’s all about blocks of bold colour and flashes of sharp
colour accents, think cobalt blue, jewel green, fuscia pink,
fire red and orange - there is certainly no room for summery
pastel hues, bold strong statements to be worn with confidence
and a spring in your step.

Colour and the shape are used
to maximum effect with this fashion forward River Island
dress (a dress that will serve you well in the upcoming party
season). It’s a bold piece that needs little else, and
a great illustration of how the block colour trend should be
worn – keep it simple. For an extra layer team with a
bright orange or fuscia pink jacket to really work the trend,
or for the less adventurous, a simple black-cropped jacket would
look equally chic. |

If too much block colour is
a statement to far for you, a bright coloured coat, cardigan
or jacket worn over a block print dress can work just as well.
Ensure the pattern is flat blocks of colour; asymmetric, boxy
prints work best like this one from Warehouse.
The great thing is you can even wear the coat over something
just plain black, or alternatively your jeans and a plain jumper.
Experiment with colour combinations; just remember to keep them
bold and sharp. |
Curvaceous women will also
look fabulous in this trend, this gorgeous orange coat from
Evans shown here with a monochrome print dress
and polo neck works a treat. Worn as a statement piece it would
look fab over most of your Autumn/Winter wardrobe, including
simply jeans and a jumper – try jewel green or cobalt
blue also try mixing bright block coloured accessories like
bags, shoes, gloves and belts

A simple style statement comes
from Warehouse in the form of this cobalt blue
dress, nipped in at the waist with a full skirt, it’s
a great choice for pear shape and hourglass women, teamed here
with a polo neck it would look equally stylish without, - a
cropped boxy jacket in orange green or pink would look great
over this too. Stick to black opaques when it come to choosing
tights, turquoise was seen a lot on the catwalk but I advise
to stick with chic black for simplicity and guaranteed style
– black is also much more flattering on the legs. |
