Extreme Shape
The title itself can seem quite daunting, but the
Extreme Shape trend, which was seen all over the catwalks, is
actually super adaptable and flattering for all shapes and sizes.
Wider hem lines on skirts, tops and sleeves give a slimming
effect on the legs and arms, and trapeze shapes help to skim
the curves not cling to them.
But remember to balance out the
silhouette, its not an excuse to hide the body away in oversized
clothing from head to toe, my tips below will ensure you get
it right and look fashionably fabulous! |
For a full on catwalk look,
Debenhams have come out tops with this great
skirt suit; the box jacket and exaggerated a-line skirt are
both super flattering and extremely adaptable. The jacket is
cut with a sharp definition on the shoulders, the slight kick
out from the waist is super flattering on the waist line and
would look chic finished off with a black waist belt for a real
high fashion touch. The wide a-line skirt is inline with the
season trend for “midi” length, the wide hemline
helps to slim the legs, teamed here with black opaque tights
and heels adds to the slimming effect and is a good tip to use.
Each piece would also look great worn separately, - the jacket
with this season must have pencil skirt or wide leg rousers,
the skirt with a crisp white shirt or simple fitted polo neck.

Extreme Shape may not seem the
most obvious of trends for curvaceous women but as with many
high fashion looks - whatever your shape - simple detailing
is a fantastic way to make any trend work for you. The voluminous
arms on this purple tunic from Simply Be are
a perfect example of how this can work. Cut almost as a batwing
shape it has a great slimming effect on the arms, and sits loosely
to the frame skimming curves not clinging. Also look out for
extra large buttons and collars on coats and jackets for a nod
to the trend |
This A-line shift dress by
Debenhams has been re-worked here with a slightly
wider hemline and gorgeous bell sleeves. A design classic –
the shift suits so many body shapes, from Pear to Apple, Fuller
to Petite, however if you are petite avoid being drowned by
an A-line shape - consider having the hem taken up an inch or
two. Layered over a pair of wide leg trousers or your skinny
jeans creates another wearable option it is also a great choice
for the Christmas party season worn with black opaques and a
pair of heels, I would recommend a simple point stiletto for
a sophisticated finish. |

New Look
I often suggest wide-leg trousers as an option for a staple
flattering trouser shape so it’s fantastic that this season
they are one of the top wardrobe must haves, and they are one
of the easiest ways to wear the trend, especially for tall women.
Whatever your size and shape, the key to the Extreme Shape trend
is to consider the silhouette. If you have a wide shape on your
bottom half choose something more fitted on the top and visa
versa. |
