The other big news was that costume jewellery shone from almost every runway – the easiest way for every woman to look modern this season – a statement necklace or oversize cuff will be essential party wear come Christmas, especially as the perfect accessory for this season’s key eveningwear look – the black dress.
The deluxe hippy was also back, with 1970s influences at D&G and Gucci – where Frida Giannini’s vision was a glossy and polished, grown up boho babe.
But while summer’s floaty dresses and frills were gone, some of last season’s key looks reappeared for winter – most notably seventies style high-waisted wide leg trousers and military detailing. You can also get those waist cinching belts you bought last winter back out of the wardrobe as this season’s silhouette had feminine curves and structured form.
When it comes to make-up this season, the most important new addition to your beauty bag will be black eye liner, one slick of that will bring your look right up to date. As will deep berry lipstick shades and bronze eyes. And to go with autumn’s tough new mood bring back your black, deep plum and dark nail polishes from last winter.
This season, if nothing else, inject your look with attitude, winter’s fashion is for strong independent women everywhere.
