High street fashion: Retro Chic
Retro clothing chic embraces a restrained womanly glamour and this look gives you the chance to channel your inner foxy woman. Confidence in minimal embellishment means looks are cool calm and collected and perfect for office or evening. This trend offers lots of hero pieces from pencil and A-line skirts, which you may already have in your wardrobe to cropped jackets and waisted dresses. Colours are solid and rich.
Let’s see what our team make of this retro clothing trend.
Claire steps into bright red fitted dress with statement puffed sleeves, perfect for adding volume to the top of the body and streamlining the bottom half – pear shapes this is a good device for you.
We’ve added loosely fitted elbow length gloves and platform shoes with ankle straps to underline the retro elegance of yester year. Black and red will always add drama and when you are working with big sculpted silhouettes like these shapes, keep jewellery to a minimum. It’s one or the other really.

Didi wears a fitted tweed style pencil skirt on the knee, cinched in at the waist with this elasticated patent belt – especially flattering for hour glass shapes. As waistbands rise higher, the look pays homage to power dressing style of the 80’s but is softened by drapey ruched top in rich purple and added lady-like cardigan. A combination of colours in soft tonal matches pulls this look together and is then finished off by a pair of patent shoes and a handbag.

Jo wears a cropped sleeve jacket and flared pleated skirt with high contrast pussy bow blouse in cream with bag, belt and shoes all carefully co-ordinated. This look is great for pear shapes drawing the eye upwards with detail at the top of the body and the darker colour streamlines the body and creates a column shape, which is a great way for petites to create focus too. Black and cream has instant classic appeal, so it will always be a great look for women of all body types.

Heather loves her jersey striped waisted dress. This is a perfect style for day and office, its up to you however what to add to give it direction. In our shot and we’ve added a belt and black lace up shoes and gloves…oh and a cloche hat for a quirky take. Sometimes when a dress is more conventional you can have fun with accessories as Heather does here!
