Women’s clothing and spring
2007 fashion trends
Ah yes another month, another opportunity
to create a wardrobe that suits your body shape and
makes you feel wonderful.
This month I answer another five reader questions
on spring 2007 fashion trends. Since I spoke to you
last I’ve filmed all my ‘high street/catwalk
challenge’ strands for the Clothes Show on UKTV
Style and I’m hot on what’s out there right
now.
Women’s clothing is my specialist subject,
so ask me anything (of course if you are already subscribing
to my newsletter you will have a much better grasp on
which spring 2007 fashion trends to choose) But let’s
see what you asked me this month.
Yes your questions on spring 2007 fashion
trends are answered below with my own brand of no nonsense
fashion advice. If you have a question about women’s
clothing I can answer it and also send you straight
to the site (we have hundreds of specialist sites in
our online
shopping mall) where you can buy the solution and
get on with your life!
This month you asked about skirts to suit
curvy bottoms, smock styles for top-heavy shapes, easy
to wear holiday dresses, shorts styles and how to make
short legs look longer. If your question isn’t
answered here then check out ‘Ask
Caryn,’ where I’ve answered another
10 this month…
And if you want to get to grips with styling
for your shape, don’t forget we have over 19 different
e-books
on how to dress to suit your body type; one of them
has been written just for you and will give you all
the fashion tips you’ll ever need AND show you
what not to wear at all costs.
So, here are your questions…

Question: “Dear Caryn
I really need your advice. I am looking for a skirt
that will suit me and make me feel sexy again. I have
tried on lots that are low on the waist and too short
on the leg. I’m curvy UK size 16 but I’m
fairly evenly proportioned, I also hate my knees so
please don’t suggest any shorts skirts. I’m
stuck in a bit of a style rut and really feel I need
a steer. Thanks "
Tracey
Hi Tracey
I’m going to ask you to be brave and try on a
pencil skirt. I’ve seen it transform the shapes
of so many women and especially curvy women who have
hips, in fact it’s on of my favourite shapes when
I’m styling. The key is the high waist and belt,
which will give your tummy and thighs a smother more
sophisticated look. Most pencil skirts are also cut
on or below the knee and are fabulous for any fuller
figure, as they will show off your curves to the best
advantage, and for added sexiness why not try a splash
of colour such as this one below.

Question: “Dear Caryn
I love the smocks that are around in the shops at the
moment especially as they cover my hips, the only problem
is that I am a 34DD and I feel top heavy. Some of the
styles I have tried on don’t seem to suit me;
I also hate showing the tops of my arms. Can you show
me what type to look for please? "
Jess
Hi Jess
Smocks are very much in fashion this spring summer and
yes they are particularly great for covering lumps and
bumps. The absolute key is the choice of fabric you
choose to wear on your body. Perhaps you have tried
on stiffer styles and these bulk you out and make your
chest and lower body look boxy. Try a style like the
one below. Not only will it gently move around your
body, but also the low neck will be very flattering
- necklines are a very important tool to create a smaller
looking bust. If you do still feel that you want more
of a minimizing effect from your smock then choose a
mat style, as shine can often create volume.
Also these sleeves are just fantastic for fuller upper
arms. Make this garment work for you honey!

Question: "Hi Caryn
I am going away at Easter for a break with my husband,
we are going to France and I want to pack as light as
I can. We are celebrating Easter with a meal and I don’t
know what to take. The weather should be quite warm
so I am looking for a dress that’s not overly
dressy, but also not too plain and will cover my stomach
after our heavy meal! Please help. I am aged 42, size
14 and don’t have much money so just want something
that I can wear again and again."
Jane
Hi Jane
There are a lot of graphic prints out in the shops at
the moment in a variety of colour, which can be worn
over jeans or simply with bare legs. Opt for a jersey
version and already the dress is more relaxed in feel
and look. You could look for a dress that has angel
sleeves as some short sleeves can be tight on the arms
but if you are happy with your arms then a wrap dress
is still a favourite choice for many women. This is
a classic style that will give you definition at the
bust and waist as well as being easy to wear and versatile.
I have a dress that I think could do the trick for you
and it’s great for dressing up or down. The print
is fun without be too trend oriented, so it will keep
for a few more summers. And they're offering 10% off the website price.

Question. “Hi Caryn
I am looking to buy some work clothes for the summer,
I work as a PA in an advertising company in Bristol
and I can be quite flexible with what I wear. I greet
a lot of clients so have to be smart. However I am fed
up with trousers, and jeans can make me feel sticky
in the heat. I am 33 and have got myself a personal
trainer at the gym and aim to slim down in time for
summer. Thanks "
Helen
Gym or no gym, why not try a pair of smart shorts?
Not only are they very much on trend but also shorts
this season are tailored and loose fit, so you can choose
how fitted or slouchy you want them to be. In fact there
are a variety of lengths out there too so you can choose
the style to suit your body shape, but for starters
begin with one that is mid thigh and experiment with
length – many will be wider and longer. Now wear
them with a smart blouse or shirt and finish off the
look with a belt and heels.

Question. "I have short legs and want to know
what suits me in trousers, I always find that smart
trousers drown me and more casual trousers are too short
and baggy for work. I am a slim build with a longish
body. What can you recommend?"
Sal
Hi Sal
This spring high-waisted trousers are all the rage and
are available for smart daywear, with a wide leg or
casual in denim. The high waist is perfect to make your
legs look longer. It’s a look that is straight
from the catwalk shows and recently seen on Kate Moss.
