Women’s clothing and spring 2007 fashion trends

Let’s talk spring 2007 fashion trends. Women’s clothing this month takes a very glamorous turn as you will see in our catwalk and high street reports when we file those on the site later this month.

So in ‘What’s new for February,’ we answer your questions on spring 2007 fashion trends with our own brand of fashion know how. Of course subscribers to the newsletter already have a headstart on women’s clothing looks each season, as I take my subscribers through what to buy each month.

Remember though here at howtolookgood.com we don’t buy into any of the latest fashion trends unless they suit our shape.

This month you asked about environmentally friendly jeans, what to wear under your short hemlines, this season’s Mac styles, jeans alternatives and how to avoid volume. One of my new year's resolutions was to be more environmentally friendly and I started by re-cycling all my clothes by taking them down to my local charity shop. Now it’s nearly February I want to take another step and thought that I should start buying environmentally friendly clothes and I want to start with looking for some new jeans, is there such a thing? Does it also mean that I will have to now spend more on my clothes?"

Well done you. I’ve just started working with Cancer Research to promote exactly that. And did you also know that you can recycle really old daggy clothes too (these get processed into stuffing and fabric strips for carpets. Yes there are companies that offer environmentally friendly or organic clothing, as it’s also known and the clothing is not necessarily more expensive. Next have brought out an organic range that include a pair of jeans and other companies are following suit. They are grown without using environmentally harmful chemicals and pesticides. Buying them also mean that you are helping farmers in countries around the world. We’ve shown you a Next item here that you can buy immediately, but Levi’s are also selling an organic jean. I love wearing short skirts but with the cold weather now here I need something to wear under them that keep me warmer than leggings or opaque tights. Any ideas? "

Yes you should check out mytights.com they offer plenty of tights, over the knee socks and in particular have a pair of tights that are made up from 70% wool, available in great fashionable colours. The tights also have Lycra so will stay in good shape on your legs

Question: "I am fed up with winter already and want to purchase something for spring to cheer me up. However I’m not sure what to go for, as according to all the fashion magazines volume is in, but as I am 39 and a voluptuous size 16 this does not appeal to me. I want something that I can dress up and down. HELP."

Yes volume is in but that isn’t the only trend from the catwalks that is around. For example another key look for spring is Broderie Anglaise. This is a very fresh look that in the right style will definitely help to lift your winter blues! La Redoute have a fabulous cross over style with tie belt that will be flattering to your shape as the tie belt will help to give you a waist and the low cut V will flatter any large chest. It is available in black too. Wear it with sandals and wooden jewellery in the day and then heels in the evening. I think it is the perfect investment for spring.

Question. “Dear Caryn
I am looking for a stylish Mac that I can wear in the rain and snow. I am a mother of twins and don’t have any time to shop. I live in a small town so don’t want to look overtly fashionable, but would love to find a Mac that looks stylish and fun, any ideas?

P.S. I love your shopping mall as I love to shop and don’t have to leave the house to do it now, so its ideal for me and my and my twins!"

Thanks for your comments regarding our shopping mall, we are glad you are like it, and yes it’s especially great for mums and working women who don’t have much time to themselves, let alone time to trail the shops. It’s also good for the husbands, as they don’t have to go shopping either!

In answer to your question Macs are great as they are practical and very stylish and now widely available on the high street. I have found this one below from Boden that I think this in particular will look great thrown over jeans with a polo neck or t-shirt. The print is fun and a move on from the traditional Burberry Mac and the hood is excellent for when it rains, so no more carrying around umbrellas. It’s also available in plain colours.

I want to find some trousers that I can wear out in the evenings that aren’t jeans and look semi smart. I also don’t like the wide leg trousers that are being sold as I’m only size 8 and 5ft 2 and they really don’t suit me. What can you suggest? Thanks "

Immediately I would suggest you try on some cropped trousers, which are a great staple of any wardrobe and can be worn in winter and summer. They are great as they help to add height and also can be dressed up or down. Team with a shirt and cardigan for the semi-smart look you were after or alternatively with a polo neck and high boots.
