how to look good: fashion advice, high street and designer clothing, fashion directory, and body shape and clothing tips

Hooray for June

This month we have our perfect packing guide.

So, let’s get the practicality of packing out of the way so that you can luxuriate in pared down glamour, safe in the knowledge, that your serenely sun kissed body is looking gorgeous. This month we’ve nominated Next to supply the essential kit and below are our top five recommendations for the most versatile garments to include in your case.

The idea is to pare down your clothes as much as possible. Then your suitcase will be lighter and you will travel more comfortably, able to enjoy the business of getting on and off trains, planes and busses as part of the adventure. Prioritise clothes that have a variety of uses so that they can be worn as many times as possible.

1

First make a clear list of what you actually need first. For example seven pairs of pants, two bras, one swimming costume, one tankini, seven T-shirts, one skirt, one pair of jeans and so on. Now ask yourself what will co-ordinate with what and how many uses you will get out of it.

This beautiful kaftan top at £14.99 will look great over jeans for travelling, (slip a red vest on underneath for an up to the minute layered look). It will also give you all the cover you need for moving from beach to bar and back again during the day. Finally dress it up with cropped trousers and decorative sandals for the evening (for see through clothing just wear the same colour bra underneath or add a contrasting decorative vest. Finish with some hoop earrings and beads.

2.

Once you have included everything, see if you can reduce your list by at least a third. Do you really need a pair of heels or a tailored jacket ? As you are removing things from your list, work out what will double up to do the job of the item you are removing – e.g., a decorative pair of flat sandals will see you through day to evening and do the job of a plain pair of sandals and a pair of heels together.
