‘It’s June and women’s 2005
swimwear looks are hot on the agenda - time to track down the swimsuit
of your dreams.’
Women’s 2005 swimwear looks are as varied as the
clothes this season, but inspired by last month’s Vanity Fair,
cover shoot featuring the entire cast of the smash hit
American soap ‘Desperate Housewives,’ we’ve decided
to pay homage to the noble one-piece swimsuit. For women’s
2005 swimwear we predict the return of the suit.
A quick trend report had award-winning actress Terri
Hatcher, dominating the picture with a red ruched halter neck that
will have companies rushing out copies as I write. (She apparently
arrived first in order to pick the most alluring 'cossie' for herself
– and who can blame her). For women’s 2005 swimwear
pundits, the look for all was fifties inspired – elegant and
universally flattering for curvy and standard shaped bodies. Four
out of the five women chose halter neck styles and according to
VF, the publicity office for the ‘ladies,’ has declared
the shoot would be the last time all five stars appeared together
– such was the rumpus that ensued, pertaining to perceived
‘swimwear violations’ and bad behaviour. So to sum up
it’s an elegant fifties flavour for women’s 2005 swimwear
styles, and the only drama we’ll be having is which pair of
perfumed beach shoes to choose (as explained in your newsletter)!
I say that it’s a rare treat to get four women of
forty and over on a front cover (any front cover), and
so I’m willing to overlook the fact that each women required
her own personal make-up artist and hairdresser! It’s interesting
to note that there were plenty of cocktail dresses on the rails
(as reported by VF) for the stars to choose from, all but one (Felicity
Huffman, who plays the harried mother of hyper twins) preferred
the kind of revelation that only a well cut swimsuit can offer!
So this month think glamour when you peruse women’s
2005 swimwear collections and think full coverage as opposed to
weenie bikini styles. A well cut swimsuit gives you support
and clever shaping from the start and will double up with a sarong
to give an elegant ‘cocktails or barbeque on the beach’
element, as well as providing a great top to low-cut jeans or cropped
trousers, that will never ride up.
Read on for our top tips on how to choose the right swimsuit for
your body shape.
Women’s 2005 swimwear - figure enhancing features
to look out for.
-
Ruching across the tummy and hips is the most flattering device
you can choose to disguise soft or dimpled tummy areas. It’s
also immediately elegant and ‘very now,’ darlings.
-
Use chevron stripes to create a streamlined shape for apple
body shapes or round tummies
-
Halter necks give more volume to small busts. They are always
a great shape for petites looking to create the illusion of
extra inches.
-
Use a shaped cup that plunges to minimise a top-heavy body
or a full bust, avoid a bandeau style top that creates visual
volume and no shape.
-
This season’s one-piece cut out styles are perfectly
suited to taller bodies – this effect will break up the
vertical line your body makes.
It can be hard when buying a swimming costume
and harder still when searching for a two-piece to visualise what
it will look like on your body, since these garments have little
or no hanger appeal. My best tip is to order from a catalogue where
you can see between 30/50 women’s 2005 swimwear styles all
modelled on bodies to give you a much better idea of how the garment
will work.
On line sites will go one better and many now
give you the chance to rotate the model’s body so you can
see the side and back view too. Catalogues and online sites also
carry a more extensive size range of women’s 2005 swimwear
styles, so if trawling the shops as the day’s get hotter is
unappealing, then choose from our online section handpicked by me
for high glamour, and maximum star appeal.
There are five great styles to choose from with web links to take
you through to the site. Where possible we give you style numbers
and specifications too. Happy Shopping. |
Star Buy!
I've scoured the online offer to find a Terri Hatcher
copy. And here it is from Marks and Spencer. It's a great
style for almost any shape with ruching at the stomach and the exact
deep v-neck and halter neck that makes Terri look so scrumptious.
Black is always a classic 'can never go wrong colour' and this swimsuit
evokes effortless elegance because it looks also most like the top
half of a 50's cocktail dress. Worn with a black sarong and silver
bangles to transport you from beach to bar, its does all the work
on your behalf.

Figleaves
This is a great style with cut outs at the back
to give the appearance of an elegant swimsuit from the front and
a two-piece from behind. It has the right amount of nostalgia, reminding
us of a time when swimsuits were fashion items in their own right.
This is a look that is great for tall and standard shaped bodies.
Team this swimsuit with wooden mules and a kaftan.
Figleaves Retro floral cut out one piece by Tommy
Hilfiger sizes 10 - 14 £45.00. NB There are plenty of designer
cut outs on the Figleaves site including Dolce and Gabanna and Chloe
styles.

Next
Another halter neck gem this time from Next,
which utilises the current trend of large tropical prints to great
effect. This costume would be a great shape to give round or sloping
shoulders a look of more substance. Thin straps will always make
shoulders look larger. The weight of the print is flattering for
standard and fuller figures.
In choosing your beach wear make sure you coordinate a
look that will travel the short distance from your hotel room to
the hot sand by considering all the components. A matching kaftan
in the same print is also from Next.

La Redoute
True to the Desperate Housewives shoot we have
selected one costume with regular shoulder straps. This is a perfect
costume for a curvy body and promises a 'sirenesque' shape.
Featured by La Redoute, this under wired one piece offers
maximum figure shaping. It has invisible control panels for a flatter
tummy and minimising cup sizes (for larger cup sizes). The wider
straps with white trim will flatter fuller shoulders and arms. Consider
your whole look, so if you choose a red costume, shoes bag and kaftan
or sundress can be kept in the same colour grouping - that way you'll
achieve maximum style with minimum effort.
To know more about working with your body shape if you are curvaceous
or fuller figured, down load an e-book individually written by me
for your specific body type.

in B, C, D. and E-cup sizes 10-22 £19.00 (each cup size has
a different style number which is clearly marked) when you visit

Boden
Two great looks from Boden - my favourite catalogue company.
With the focus at the top of the body these are both great styles
for a petite as well as standard shapes. The polka dot halter neck
has the added ability to create a minimising effect at the bust.
The darker colour on top reduces while the lighter patterned area
creates volume. A perfect swimsuit for a top-heavy shape.
Boden Bow swimsuit WS010AQU and Turquoise clematis
halter neck WS011BRN. Both come in sizes 8-20 at £39.00 each.
