What’s New March 2006?
Spring 2006 fashion trends are hitting the
shops so let me show you my favourite online buys this
month to answer your style dilemmas.
This month besides asking about spring fashion
and fashion trends, you want information on the dress
you saw Kate Moss wearing, cocktail dresses for slender
shapes, summer styles to cover knees and much more.
I’ve answered five of your questions below and
covered a further ten in ‘ask Caryn’.
There
is more too for my curvy readers this time on the Evans
website, where I am guesting as a fashion consultant
and have answered another 7 most frequently asked spring
fashion questions.
So, here goes... |
Question. ‘I love the Kate Moss dress that
she wore recently. I am not skinny and I have big hips,
but I would love to wear something see-through or lacy
to show off my cleavage (one of my better parts!). Any
suggestions? Debs.
Hi Debs, I know exactly the dress you mean, Kate’s
dress was by Dior but since she was photographed in
it, the design has become iconic and high street labels
have been inspired to create their designs ‘in
the spirit of’ so without saying they’ve
all copied it, I’m pleased to tell you there is
plenty to choose from. Hers was very figure hugging
so not the best shape if you feel you have big hips,
but look what I’ve found for your body type. This
is a two-piece from Next. The top is a boob tube that
is identical to Kate’s dress and worn with the
a-line tulle skirt. it will suit your body shape and
certainly turn heads.

Question. ‘I can’t wait for hot summer
days, but I am dreading bearing my legs, in shorts and
mini skirts because I hate my knees. I have a huge collection
of long gypsy skirts and I am getting bored of wearing
them. What can you suggest?’ Gayle
Hi Gayle, yes, after these chilly winds I’ll
be into my Betty Jackson blue floral skirt as soon as
the sun shines uninterrupted for more than 10 minutes.
I know a lot of women who like you don’t feel
comfortable bearing their knees so I have a great solution;
these fabulous ‘cover-the-knee-length’ denim
pants are just the thing. Not only are they extremely
comfortable but they will also give you an air of style
aficionado when you wear them with wooden soled wedges
and a white broderie anglaise smock top - very Chloe.

Question. ‘I work in a corporate environment
and have to wear skirts and heels to work; lately my
feet have been suffering. Friday is dress down day and
I have been wearing trainers, however that doesn’t
solve my daily problem of achy feet. Do you have any
ideas for lady-like shoes that complement a skirt with
either low or no heels?’ Lauren
Well Lauren, last season’s catwalk trend for
pumps or flats is this season’s high street look,
so you will have no trouble getting hold of the flat
ballerina style pump we’re featuring here from
Boden. Still very much on trend, pumps are great as
they are feminine, practical and very, very comfortable!
This style with a bow on the front will not only work
with skirts but also jeans and crops. Buy them wear
them to death and enjoy.

Question. ‘I am looking for a nice outfit
that is a sort of cocktail dress. I never normally dress
up, and as I am quite sporty looking and flat chested
I feel uncomfortable about carrying anything off that
is glamorous and feminine. However I would love to break
out of this rut and look sexy or be centre of attention
for a change.’ Tracey
You know what Tracey; a plunging neckline isn’t
the only way to look sexy. Check out this beautiful
dress, it is made from jersey so is very comfortable
and falls in feminine folds. It has a daring cutaway
back that is this season’s erogenous zone, and
I bet you have a wonderfully toned back and shoulders.
It is great for your body shape, as the front has a
Grecian feel to it and is so well designed that if you
are slight, you don’t even need to wear a bra.

Question. ‘I am 36 years old and about to
be a first time mother. I am overjoyed by my baby bump,
but at 5 months I am not fitting into my normal shirts.
I have a range of stretchy weekend outfits, but I need
to a dressy blouse for my teaching job. I tried the
high street maternity ranges such as Top Shop and Hennes
and even Mothercare, but they are either not smart enough
or too pregnant looking. I desperately need your help
to get through the next 4 months gracefully.’
Sarah
Congratulations Sarah! There are times aren’t
there where you just don’t need your stomach to
be the focus of attention! If you are standing in front
of a classroom then you need this blouse, called Cocoon
from the La Redoute range. It is made from cotton voile
so is extremely comfortable and light. It has a mandarin
collar, which is one of this season's trends. I love
this blouse as it has pleats down the front, which takes
emphasis off the bump, and the vibrant colour is cheerful
and will make your face look fresh, just like the blossoming
mother that you are.
