The latest fashion trends for your
body shape.
The latest fashion trends are in your shops now,
but will they suit your shape?
Well I’ve been
working with them right the way through the spring – (and you can see all the latest fashion trends covered
when you check out both catwalk and the high street channels from the home page, or tune into my second series
of the Clothes Show starting this month on UKTV Style).
But for now I have picked five questions from my bursting
e-mail post bag to show you just what I mean.
In the answers,
as always we have created links to take you through to
the site to buy the item and if you don’t see
your question here, then check ‘ask
Caryn’ I may have answered it in
this month's letters.
Of course if you are already subscribing
to my newsletter you will have a much better grasp on
which of the latest fashion trends are right for your body.
And if you want an easy to use styling tool for your individual shape that will
last you a lifetime, then we have an e-book that has been specially written for you - there are 19 different shapes
to choose from and one of them is just right for you.

Question: “Hi Caryn
I love stripes but every time I wear them my friends
tell me that I shouldn’t, as they say it makes
my bust look bigger, I am a 34D cup. I don’t want
to give up on stripes so is there a particular neckline
or shape I could go for that will let me wear stripes
still?"
Frustrated Suzy
Hi Suzy
I totally understand your frustration as stripes look
fresh and are great for spring when you want to wear
a bit of white. However there are certain
fashion clauses to protect against image hick ups and
yes your friends are right, as generally stripes across
your bust (if you are already curvaceous) will make
you look bigger.
However I do have a solution for you, Chevron stripes
that curve downwards are great for streamlining your
bust. The eye is drawn inwards towards the middle of
your body, choose also a heart shape neckline and this
will flatter your cleavage without making you look top
heavy. This great dress from Additions catalogue is
perfect for you and great for early summer bbq’s.

Question: “Dear Caryn
I love the white jeans that are everywhere at the moment and want to
be able to wear them, but as I have big hips I don’t
think I can. I am 46 and feel younger than I did at
30 so any suggestions? Thanks"
Caroline
Hi Caroline
White jeans are great for summer and fashionable without
being too high fashion and come in skinny, straight
and bootleg style, long or cropped. Yes you can wear
them, you just need to be a bit clever and layer with
a printed or brightly coloured wrap dress or tunic to
cover your hips. I also think a shirt dress is great
for dressing up or down and I have found this one in
a longer length which also has a slight split at the
front to show off more of your leg. Wear your jeans
this way for ultimate sophistication and cool.

Question: "Hi Caryn
I have lost a lot of weight since the New Year and am
looking forward to showing off my new body. I am off
on hols next month but I am still flabby around the
waist, as the benefit of exercise has not quite kicked
in yet. Is there a miracle swimsuit to hold me in? "
Helen
Hi Helen
Yes there is and it is actually called Magic! The swimsuit
has built in extra support so that is pulls you in and
the ruched effect will also flatter your body shape.
It is slightly more expensive than normal swimsuits
but well worth it. Why not also invest in a brightly
coloured sarong to wear around your hips, as this will
also take the emphasis away from your stomach.
Have a well-deserved break.

Question. “Dear Caryn
I’m six months pregnant with my first child and
I have a friend’s 40th birthday party to go to
next month. I feel like a balloon at the moment but
obviously want to look my best at the party. I haven’t
the time or the energy to go to the shops. I need your
help. I am petite (5ft 1) and a size 14."
Sharon
Congratulations on your pregnancy! I would recommend
you go for a darker colour as this will give you a slimmer
silhouette, also go for an empire line which will help
give you height and streamline your body. With a good
bra you can do strapless to really make you feel glamourous
and draw attention to your neck and shoulders, again
helping to slim you down. If it is slightly chilly weather
wear with a bright wrap.

Question. "I am looking for a shift dress that
I can wear to work and also out in the evenings. Have
you seen anything around? I don’t want a plain
colour but also don’t want any of the bold prints,
as they are too much for my office. I also don’t
like the tops of my arms and get fed up always wearing
a cardigan. "
Harry
Hi Harry
Shift dresses are everywhere this season and have been
updated with 3⁄4 sleeves. You are right to avoid
bright colours for the office and chose instead a softer
print such as the one shown. Pick a pair of soft grey
footless tights or black skinny trousers to give you
extra coverage if you need it. You can wear easily wear
it to work with a pair of pumps and then team with heels
for the evening. Effortless fashion.
