Autumn Fashion 2006

It’s September, summer’s not quite over yet, but make sure you are ready for the latest autumn fashion, or if you are from the US we are talking fall 2006 fashion trends.

First take a look at the new updated ‘catwalk’ section featuring the latest fashion trends in UK, as well as those from New York, Paris and Milan. Then move on to ‘High Street’ to see how your local stores have interpreted the look.

Once you are in the know about the strongest commercial themes and you have all the fashion advice you need (find out how to dress to suit your body shape) you will then be ready to take on the cooler weather with style!

The latest female fashion trends are what you are asking for, so I have answered your questions and picked out five key items that will kick start your autumn look.

The products featured below are all available to buy online, just click on the link to find out more.

Question, “Hi Caryn, The nights are getting a bit colder, so I am looking for a jacket that I can wear in the week with my smart clothes and over jeans at the weekend. I also want to buy something that will last me through until autumn, as I don’t have a lot of money to spare. What do you suggest?"
Charlotte

Hi Charlotte
Yes, unfortunately summer is disappearing, but the good news is that you can now look forward to wearing all the latest fashion trends coming into your local stores. I would suggest you buy a jacket that is not too heavy, but also has a bit of weight to keep you warm. I have found a lovely velvet cropped jacket which will work well dressed up or down, and this colour works well for autumn.

Question: “Hi, I have read that the masculine look is back in. I have some lovely trousers that I brought a few seasons ago, which I love, but I want to update what to wear with them. I don’t want to wear a jacket with them and definitely don’t want to wear a tight waistcoat, as I want to hide my mid-life age spread! Help".
Sue

Hi Sue
Yes that’s correct, one of the trends for Autumn/Winter is the masculine look. The high street will have tailored suits, wide leg trousers and waistcoats as the main highlight of this, however, if you want something softer I would suggest a knitted tank top. This, worn over a shirt or plain long sleeve t-shirt can dress up any trousers without constricting your waist and can add colour also to any outfit.

Question: "Dear Caryn, I work in the city and my hours are long, so to see my friends in the week I have to go straight out from work. I also have to leave my house in the morning by 6am. So I am looking for something new to buy that I can wear to work and then wear out. I also don’t have as much time as I want to go to the gym so I need something that can hide my problem areas – my stomach and bum! Is there anything out there for me, as I haven’t time to shop".
Lisa

Hi Lisa
You sound like a typical working women trying to juggle everything all at once, work, social and health. Yes I can help you, don’t worry. I think you need to go for something semi smart that doesn’t show too much cleavage for your work, but also looks a bit funky for when you are out.

Last year’s Roland Mouret style dress is still very much around and looks gorgeous on a lot of different shaped women, which is why it has been so popular. I have sourced one that is a check print, very smart for day, but also on the fashion trend for when you go out in the evening to see your friends. It has a clever support built in to enhance areas where we need a little help, and has a control inner lining that lifts the bum and bust, whilst also holding in the stomach – a girls dream come true!

Question. “Dear Caryn, I have put on a bit of weight from my holiday and this has gone straight to my thighs - so I can’t get into my skinny jeans anymore. What can you suggest that is still trendy but also flattering?"
Ellen

Hi Ellen
If you can’t enjoy yourself on holiday when can you? Don’t worry; skinny jeans are on their way out, so we can all breathe a sign of relief. The catwalks showed fashions that are more realistic for us all. Wide and baggy trousers are in, and worn with a fitted polo neck, shirt or t-shirt and cardigan, will definitely flatter your legs. You should wear them with pumps or trainers in the day for a more funky and comfortable look, and then with high heels and sexy top for going out in the evening.

Question. "Dear Caryn, I find the crop cardigans that are everywhere in the shops not flattering for my bust (34E) and waist size (I am a size 16). I want to wear a cardigan that suits me but is also definitely not nerdy".
Carol

Hi Carol
I want to start by saying that I totally agree that women who have a larger bust should not wear the cropped cardigans, as this will make the bust look bigger. I think that you should invest in a long cardigan, something with a tie belt. This will pull you in on the waist and worn with a simple slip top will keep you looking and feeling sexy. Oversized knits are also a big trend for the new season as well as a great way to keep warm!
